Ramson’s Neck in Monmouth County, NJ

Rumson, New Jersey started out as Navarumsunk when English settlers purchased the territory that today makes up Rumson from the Lenape Indians. The sale of Navarumsunk occurred in 1663. 

Now settled by the English, the Native American name of Navarumsunk became Ramson’s Neck.

Through Revolutionary War times, Ramson’s Neck consisted of today’s Rumson, Fair Haven, Red Bank, Little Silver and Shrewsbury.

Rumson was spun off from Shrewsbury in 1907.
